Who Is The CRC?
Citizens for a Responsible Curriculum (CRC) believes parents have the authority to guide the moral direction of their children, not the public schools. States like Maryland disagree: “Once I have elected to send my child to public school, my fundamental right does not allow me to direct what my child is exposed to in the public school”. CRC is a non-profit grassroots organization of Montgomery County (MD) parents and citizens, founded in December 2004, in response to a now discarded 2004 sex-ed curriculum passed by the Montgomery County BOE which violated the US Constitution. The Board’s revised sex-ed curriculum, which it approved on June 12, 2007, is in many ways more harmful to our children.
MCPS NEW SEX-ED CURRICULUM
On January 7th, 2007 the Montgomery County school board approved a revised curriculum for presenting lessons on sexual orientation to students in Montgomery County Public Schools. On June 12th, 2007, the MCBOE approved the final version of the curriculum, regardless of an opt-out rate during last spring's pilot program which was 10x that of the previous sex-ed curriculum, and a petition from 270 medical doctors urging them to consider the health risks.
The new curriculum is factually inaccurate; contains unsupported statements that endanger the physical and emotional health of students; fails to present controversial subject matter with the reasoned viewpoint neutrality required by law; and still violates students' rights under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as determined by Judge Williams in CRC & PFOX vs MCPS, Case 8:05-cv-01194-AW (05/05/2005). Under MCPS’ policy, students will not be allowed to raise any contrary viewpoints or even ask questions.

CRC appealed the curriculum in Montgomery County Circuit Court January 16. On February 1, 2008, Judge William Rowan III rejected CRC et al’s allegation that the State Board of Education violated state law. The objectionable new curriculum is being taught in ALL 8th and 10th grade public schools in Montgomery County now.
